FIBER TWIST IN THE CONVERTING OPERATION OF FLUFF PULP BOARD
Converting performance of fluff pulp was studied in this paper. When fluff pulp board is converted into individual fibers, fiber twist is a critical factor in influencing the elasticity and the absorbance of the fluff pulp, and also the appearance of non-woven products. Fiber twist was studied during different converting operations. Fiber twist degree is put forward as a parameter for evaluating the converting performance of fluff pulp board and revealing the underlying mechanism. The results show that cotton fluff pulp is fluffed to the optimal level when it has been converted for 30s and that the moisture of the fluff pulp board influences the fiber twist degree, with the optimum moisture being 9.2%. Furthermore, papermaking conditions also affect the fiber twist degree. The fiber twist can be abated or overcome by adjusting the velocity of the fluffing machine and the moisture content of fluff pulp board.
