PREPARATION OF NEW CATIONIC FLOCCULANT AND ITS APPLICATION TO TREATING PAPERMAKING WASTEWATER
Polyquaternary ammonium acrylamide graft copolymer (PAQD) was prepared from acrylamide and poly-2hydroxylpropyldiethyl ammonium chloride (PQC) and was used as flocculant in the treatment of papermaking wastewater for removing CODCr and suspended substances and decoloring. The impact of polymerized technological parameters including dosage of initiator, concentration of monomer, pH and polymeric temperature on the molecular weight of cationic PAQd was investigated. The influence of dosage of flocculant, molecular weight and pH on flocculation effect was discussed. The experimental results showed that this cationic flocculant had satisfactory results to treat papermaking wastewater. In comparison with the conventional flocculants, e.g., APAM (anionic polyacrylamide) and NPAM (nonionic polyacrylamide), PAQD has the best flocculation performance. PAQD flocculant was characterized by its less dosage of flocculant, higher sedimentation rate, lower water content of filter cake and clearer supernatant.
