THE PSEUDOPLASTIC BEHAVIOR OF BAGASSE KRAFT PULPING BLACK LIQUOR

The flow behavior of bagasse kraft black liquor over a shear-rate range form 10-1s-1 to 103s-1 was investigated by using the rheometer. Experimental results elucidate that bagasse black liquor is a nonNewtonian fluid with pseudoplastic behavior (shearthinning behavior) at higher solids contents, and the apparent viscosities of black liquor would decrease about 2~3 orders of magnitude with an increase in the shear rates. The apparent viscosity and flow behavior of bagasse black liquor are easily- influenced by its solids content, and the higher solids content is, the more shear-thinning bagasse black liquor fluid is. The Power-Law equation was applied to fit these flow curves at different conditions. In reality, the significances of pseudoplastic properties of bagasse black liquor in the chemical recovery system, such as friction calculation of pipe and design optimization of the whole recovery system, were also mentioned simply.
