DETERMINATION OF OXALATE IN OXYGEN DELIGNIFICATION LIQUOR BY HEADSPACE GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
This paper demonstrated a headspace gas chromatographic technique for the determination of oxalate in oxygen delignification liquors. In presence of permanganate at an acidic medium and an elevated temperature, carbon dioxide is generated from both the rapid reaction with oxalate and slow reaction with the some co-existing organic species. Using a multiple headspace extraction (MHE)measurement, the kinetics of formation of the carbon dioxide from the co-existing organic species in the sample liquor can be determined, and thus a correction can be made for minimizing the interferences. The present method is simple, accurate, and can be easily automated.
