PREPARATION OF RIGID POLYURETHANE FOAM FROM LIQUEFIED WHEAT STRAW
Wheat straw was liquefied in the mixture of polyethylene glycol and glycerin catalyzed by sulfuric acid at the temperature 130~160℃. The liquefaction products had the hydroxyl number of 250~550mg KOH/g which were suitable to be used as the polyol component to manufacture rigid polyurethane foam. The thermal and mechanical properties of the polyurethane foam are characterized. The mechanical strength of the polyurethane foam was significantly improved by the addition of liquefaction products. The decomposition temperature of the polyurethane foam was found to increase with the addition of liquefied bagasse. It is concluded that the liquefied wheat straw components act as hard segments in polyurethane network formations. The polyurethane foam could be degraded at ambient temperature in the present of microorganism.
