PATTERNED CELLULOSE FILMS

Honeycomb-and stripe-patterned regenerated cellulose films were fabricated on the basis of selforganization. The honeycomb-patterned film with mesoscopic pores was fabricated by blowing humid air to the surface of cellulose triacetate (CTA)/ chloroform solution. However, the diameters of these honeycomb pores were not uniform. Such patterned filM with uniform pores could be fabricated by means of the transcription method. In this method, a first template was fabricated from a mixture chloroforM solution of polycaprolactone and amphiphilic polymer by blowing humid air. A second template with honeycomb-patterned grooves was transcribed from the first template by using polydimethyl siloxane. The honeycomb-patterned regenerated cellulose film was fabricated by pressing the second template on the CTA/chloroform solution followed by drying and saponification. We also succeeded in fabrication of honeycombpatterned bacterial cellulose film. The film was obtained by the culture of Gluconacetobacter xylinus on the agarose medium with honeycomb-patterned grooves.
