Effect of anodic biofilm growth on the electrochemical properties of microbial fuel cell
Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and Cyclic Voltammetry (the result was not shown here) have been used to study the effect of the biofilm growth on the anode polarization impedance and power output at different operational conditions. These operational conditions included a MFC system with and without the bacterial catalyst and EIS measurements at different periods of biofilm growth. The impedance spectra showed that biofilm growth greatly reduced the anode polarization impedance. The magnitude of the power density followed the reciprocal trend as that of the anode polarization impedance. The large decrease of the anode polarization impedance increased the rate of the glucose oxidation at the anode and the power generation.
