Effect of cathode surface area on electricity generation with microbiai fuel cells

The effect of cathode area on electricity generation was investigated with sodium acetate as carbon sources in two chambers microbiai fuel cells (MFCs). The results show that the start-up time was about 6d. The higher output voltage and volumetric power density were achieved with increasing the area of cathode,but the inter resistances decreased. The maximum output voltage of MFC with higher cathode area was 719mV. The electric cycles were operated for10d. The maximum volumetric power density was 8.65 W/m3 and the internal resistances of this reactor were 22.06Ω.
