Azo reduction by Shewanella decoloritonis S12 with cathode as sole electron donor in microbial fuel cell
Shewanella decoloritonis S12 showed high capacity in azo reduction and has proved to be electrochemical active in Microbial fuel cell (MFC).In this study,5.decoloritonis S12 was adopted to generate current in anode chamber of MFC,and azo reduction was simultaneously achieved by s.decoloritonis S12 with the cathode as sole electron donor.It was shown for the first time that species of shewanella can accept the electrons direct donated from cathode. Additionally,biofilm and riboflavin were detected in the MFC which indicated a complex strategy was employed in the electron transfer mechanism.
