Effect of different substrates on the performance and bacterial communities in the microbial fuel cell
Quinoline and pyridine are among the heterocyclic compounds, which are recalcitrant for biodegradation in wastewaters. Power generation was obtained using quinoline (or pyridine) as the fuel in the microbial fuel cell (MEC) after acclimation for several months. The maximum voltage outputs obtained were 145 and 116mV when using 500 mg/L quinoline and pyridine as fuel, respectively.Electrical charges obtained from quinoline were higher than from pyridine per COD (g) removal. DGGE analysis showed that microbial community changed with the substrates.
