Anode potential regulation on growth and activity of Geobacter sulfurreducens in Microbial Fuel Cells
To explore the effect of potential regulation on microorganism growth and biocatalytic activity during startup of MFCs,four groups of MFCs were operated at three applied anode potential (-160 mV,0 mV and 400 mV vs.standard hydrogen electrode (SHE)) and an external resistor (500 Ω),respecth ely. A model strain Geobacter sulfurreducens was used here. The evolution of current and biomass was measured. The linear voltammetry and CV were also carried out. The results indicated that biomass and power density were enhanced as the anode potential increased from -160 mV to 0 mV,but no improvement in biomass and power generation was obtained when the anode potential further increased to 400 mV.In addition, anode potential has slight influence on the activity of individualistic G sulfurreducens cell, and the power density of MFC proportionate to biomass.
