Development of a DNA Microarray for Detection of Wastewater Bacterial Pathogens
1.Introduction Despite rapid advancements in water quality management technologies, waterbome pathogens still remain as one of the major environmental threats to human health. The rapid, specific, sensitive detection of pathogenic baeteria is an important challenge in modern water microbial quality monitoring. The microarray assay have recently emerged as a promising alternative for environmental pathogen monitoring.Because of its high throughput design, microarray allows for processing of multiple samples and monitoring up to tens of thousands of genes in a single assay. The main objective of this study was to design and validate an oligonucleotide microarray to detect 6 bacterial pathogens. Moreover, the suitability of propidium monoazide sample treatment in combination with microarray detection was validated.
