Ozygen profiles in biofilm at endogenous respiration
INTRODUCTION Knowledge of the endogenous respiration is particularly important in the evaluation of respirograms for determination of biochemical oxygen demands and activated sludge kinetics. The reduction of active biomass directly coupled to a consumption of electron acceptor.Endogenous respiration is one of the reasons for the loss of microbial activity in general, and therefore,is very important for the modeling of wastewater treatment. However, the decay process is usually neglected in the biofilm study and modeling. One of the important reason is little information has revealed about the decay process in biofilm so far to our best knowing. The present study aimed at measuring the oxygen profiles in the mature biofilms taken from the wastewater treatment plant by using the microelectrode technique. The results provided new insights into oxygen profiles at the endogenous respiration process.
