INTEGRATED LIFETIME MANAGEMENT OF CIVIL INFRASTRUCTURE SYSTEMS: RECENT ACCOMPLISHMENTS
The overall objective of integrated lifetime management of civil infrastructure is to broaden stakeholder’s perspective and include maintenance, repair, rehabilitation and replacemen costs in addition to cost of design and construction, when determining best management strategies of their facilities.Nowadays, a major challenge is to use structural health monitoring concepts and methods in the general maintenance and repair frameworks of civil infrastructure to determine optimal maintenance strategies. The information obtained from monitoring can be used to reduce epistemic uncertainties and, consequently, improve the results of the life-cycle cost analysis. The primary objective of this paper is to highlight recent accomplishments in the integrated lifetime management of civil infrastructure including performance assessment based on lifetime functions or structural reliability, maintenance, monitoring, management and optimization of structural systems under uncertainty.
