ASSET MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR LIFETIME ENGINEERING OF ROAD TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE
Outstanding management efforts are essential to ensure preservation of road transport infrastructure. Croatia is currently placing large efforts to develop a reliable and efficient motorway asset management system including all physical assets on Croatian motorways –bridges, tunnels, pavements, drainage, geotechnical structures, road equipment and buildings. The works comprise drafting the standardized procedures for inspection, assessment and repair of structures, cost analysis and cost-benefit module, future condition forecasting algorithms and criteria for deciding on an optimum maintenance strategy. In the course of this work it was established that major structures should be hand-picked from the entire stock and treated separately. This point is discussed using large reinforced concrete arch bridges in Croatia as an example. These bridges are equipped with a range of sensors, thus structural health monitoring data may be used for structural condition evaluation and deterioration prediction, triggering timely and appropriate maintenance and rehabilitation work of individual structures, as well as providing input data to decide on maintenance strategy on the network level.
