ENERGY-BASED MODAL PUSHOVER METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION TO THE SEISMIC ANALYSIS OF CONTINOUS RIGID FRAME BRIDGE
Submitted herein is an improved modal pushover method that directly establishes the capacity curve based on energy increments, intending to correct the deficiency of traditional modal pushover method that the capacity curve would not be unique or even be retorted while the base shear-top displacement curve is established with repect to different reference points. Firstly, it is demonstrated that the total input energy is fully transformed to the absorbed energy by the corresponding mode of SDOF system with the modal related load acted on the structure. Consequently, the relationships betweem the energy increments and the spectra displacement increments as well as the spectra acceleration increments are deduced, and the capacity curve is directly obtained accodingly. Then the characteristics of the equivalent SDOF system and seismic responses of the structure can be computed with the capacity curve. A long-span continuous frame bridge with tall piers in seismic zone are analyzed with the submitted method. It is shown that the capacity curves obtained with the proposed method are much more smooth and stable than those obtained with traditional method, which proved its favourable adaptability and application prospect.
