QUANTITATIVE ASSESSMENT OF LIFE-CYCLE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF BRIDGES BASED ON ECO-INDICATOR 99
As one of the major infrastructure, the bridge consumes an enormous of materials during its life cycle, and results in significant environmental burdens. Therefore, it is an urgent need to develop an objective and effective assessment methodology. This methodology is expected to be used as a tool to evaluate and control environmental impacts of bridges. In this research, a life cycle assessment approach based on Eco-indicator99 is presented for evaluating environmental impacts of bridges from extraction of raw materials to end-of-life, while considering the damages to human health, ecosystem quality and resources caused by environmental factors. Finally, a case project is discussed in order to illustrate the assessment processes and test the effectiveness of the approach in application.
