DYNAMIC ANALYSIS AND CONDITION ASSESSMENT OF A HIGHWAY BRIDGE BASED ON AMBIENT EXCITATION

After a period of operation, there perhaps are damages in the bridge structure to a certain degree, presently static test and dynamic test are widely used in the detection techniques of bridge, but potentiality of danger exists in these tests, especially for the bridges. Ambient vibration test is a non-destructive test technique, which doesn’t need costly excitation equipments, doesnt interrupt natural service of bridge and is of much convenience. This paper focuses on the dynamic analysis and health condition assessment of an existing highway bridge based on ambient excitation during the process of old bridge rehabilitation. Firstly, the dynamic behavior of the bridge is studied in detail with finite element method (FEM), and the vibration testing is carried out based on ambient excitation. Secondly, the experimental and theoretical results are analyzed comparatively, which show that the bridge is strengthened in stiffness and integrity, and has better dynamic performance. In the end, the dynamic response of the bridge under moving load is analyzed with FEM, four cases are considered to study the influence between new and old part. Through the comparison of deflection, it can be seen that the bridge has better collaborative capability and better health condition.
