TRANSIENT DAMPING FEATURE EXTRACTING METHODS AND APPLICATION
In a vibration system, response frequency, mode shape and damping, which are always relative with the system structure, are often used in damage detection in Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS). Meanwhile, modal analysis and parameters identification are common-used methods for extracting the dynamic characteristics in SHMS. However, it is impossible to extract and quantify exactly modal parameters as feature vectors of a system in damage detection, so it is necessary to choose approximate feature vector. This paper proposes transient damping as a new concept. With the aid of Frequency Slices Wavelet Transform (FSWT), a new feature extracting method about transient damping is introduced to study on system State Representation Methodology (SRM), which is applied to assess system condition. A small Laboratory Bridge Monitoring System (LBMS) demonstrated the application. Experiments show the SRM features are sensitive and stable with the system changes when its condition is changed.
