MECHANICAL BEHAVIOR OF DRILLING DERRICK USING FEM
Using finite element method (FEM), numerical analysis model of a drilling derrick with maximum rated static hook 1012 kips is performed by ANASYS program. The maximum deflection and stresses of members are presented under mainly cases of the maximum rated static hook, 93 knots wind without pipe setback and 70 knots wind with oil pipe setback. Checked by the specification for drilling structures of American Petroleum Institute (API) and specification for structural steel buildings of American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC), all members’ stresses meet specification requirements. In order to get the maximum capcaity of the derrick, the curve of capacity reduction is presented by changing wind speed from 0 to rated ones. It’s shown the maximum static hook is less than 1012 kips when wind speed is higher than 35 knots.
