RESEARCH AND APPLICATION OF CAPACITY SPECTRUM METHOD IN SEISMIC ASSESSMENT OF RIGID FRAME BRIDGE

The lateral load patterns to a single pier model for pushover analysis at the transverse direction are emphatically discussed. It is concluded that by applying the first modal load to the pier, reliable results could be obtained. Strength reduction coefficient is adopted for the reduction of the elastic response spectrum specified by the Chinese code for seismic design of railway engineering, to obtain the elasto-plastic seismic response spectrum for practical engineering application. Based on the N2 method, the authors have established a simplified capacity spectrum analysis procedure and proposed a seismic capacity assessment method for bridges, which is based on Push-over analysis. By using this method, a railway bridge is analyzed. The results show that the proposed method can successfully identify the most weak location of the structure under the earthquake, which indicates that it is a simple and effective method for seismic assessment of bridges .
