MECHANIC CHARACTERISTICS OF POLYPROPYLENE FIBER CONCRETE

This paper elaborated the influnce of polypropylene fiber reinforced concrete by three stages. They involve: the fresh stage of concrete and the early period of hydration, the hardened period and the service period of materials. At the first stage, after adding the polypropylene fiber into concrete, the slump loss of concrete and bleeding ratio decrease; the polypropylene fiber incorporate into concrete as a aggregate, the interface zone between mortar and fiber will appear as that between mortar and aggregate, the mechanism is possibly due to a wall effect, flocculation of binder, microbleeding effect, transportation, precipitation and nucleation of ion. At the second stage, the self-desiccation shrinkage, chemical shrinkage,drying shrinkage,the difference in expansion coefficient between aggregate and paste, hydration of paste and re-crystallization of hydrated products can be contributed to the mechanism, polypropylene fiber make the surface of concrete difficult to lose water and migrate water and the polypropylene fiber in general are effective in controlling shrinkage cracking in concrete. At the last stage, concrete may suffer load, aggressive agent , freeze-thaw, alkali-aggregate reaction and continuous hydration of paste, polypropylene fiber postpone the degradation of concrete. In addition, the influence of water-cement ratio, admixtures and the length-wide ration, shape, volume of the polypropylene fiber concrete were reviewed.
