Investigation of Dose Calculation Algorithm Based on Collapsed Cone Convolution Method
In this paper, collapsed cone convolution method for photon dose calculation was investigated. Coordinate transformations between different coordinate systems in 3D dose calculation were studied. The intersections between rays and patient data grids was calculated by using ray tracing method, dose was calculated iteratively according to the collapsed cone convolution algorithm and compared with the results of DOSXYZnrc Monte Carlo program. In the 30×30×30 cm3 water phantom, dose calculation in high computation resolution for 10×10 cm2 single field was worked out within just a few seconds which was much faster than standard convolution and Monte Carlo method. The results show that the speed and accuracy of dose calculation is guaranteed by collapsed cone convolution method. It has a great significance for the development of radiotherapy planning system.
