The Empirical Formula of Effective Treatment Depth in Semifield of Isocenter Radiation for Postoperative Breast Cancer

Purpose: Establish the empirical formula of effective treatment depth in semifield of isocenter radiation for postoperative breast cancer. Method: The postoperative breast cancer patients underwent virtual CT simulation, use 3D treatment planning system design plan of chest wall and inner mammary lymph node. Measure relevant parameter, establish model. Results: The empirical formula of chest wall target semifield isocenter tangential radiation is Y=0.7X-1.9 (X value range: 7.9cm-12.1cm). Correlation factor r=0.7738. The empirical formula of chest wall and lymph node target semifield isocenter tangential radiation is Y=0.5X-0.8 (X value range: 9.3cm-13.4cm). Correlation factor r=0.6384. Conclusion: Due to the irregular chest wall, oblique beam, semifield or quarterfield , tissue inhomogeneties (the beam traverse partial lung) all need to be corrected, it’s difficult to get exact MU use manual calculation. Empirical formula can be used calculate the effective treatment depth, and thus obtain more accurate MU.
