A Reliable 3D-reconstruction Program in Accurate Radiotherapy Treatment Planning System

In the three-dimensional accurate radiotherapy treatment planning system, it is one of key steps of the whole planning system to reconstruct and visualize the surface model of organs and gross target volume (GTV) from a serial of 2D contours rapidly and accurately. This paper designed a 3D-reconstruction program mainly involving following steps: pre ① -processing of contour points dataset; ② Iso-surface extraction; ③ Simplification of surface model; ④ Linear transformation of surface model; ⑤ Smoothing the surface model. This pipeline was implemented by Visualization Toolkit (VTK). The result proved that this program could effectively avoided the “step effect in stand MC method due to inconsistency between slice spacing and image resolution, and provided muti-user interface such as visibility setting, transparence setting and display model setting (wire-frame model, surface model). Furthermore, it had been successfully integrated into domestic treating planning system (TPS) for practical use, as well as other applications which need 3D reconstructing from 2D contours.
