Correction for Ghosting Artifact in RARE by Dual-acquisition
Rapid acquisition with relaxation enhancement (RARE) is fast but vulnerable to ghosting artifact. Phase errors between different echoes induce phase modulation along the phase encoding direction, which is the source of ghosting Artifact. Based on RARE’s the property that polarities of phase errors from adjacent echoes are opposite, we propose a dual-acquisition method to correct the phase errors. Phase encoding for the second acquisition is one echo delayed to inverse the phase error polarity compared to the earlier acquisition. Then adding up these two acquisitions generates phase error reduced k-space data. This method has been successfully tested on a permanent magnet scanner. The result shows that ghosting artifacts are effectively suppressed.
