The Design and Implementation of Coin Image Registration Algorithm
Image registration is the most important step in the image-based authenticity identification of coins and defect detection system. In this paper, an automatic image registration algorithm based on the textures of coin is proposed. Using image edges, instead of gray levels, to present textures of coins, and to calculate various integral projections, the fluctuations of different projection regions can be improved. The accurate registration of coin images is achieved by applying variety of integral projection methods and multiple iterations for adjusting transform parameters. The proposed algorithm has been implemented in the system for identification of authenticity of precious coins and defect detection, and its robustness for coin images with various quality has been proved.
