A Virtual Eversion of Colon Based Outer-Surface Centerline
Virtual eversion is a novel methodology in medical image visualization. This new idea allows a larger and much more intuitive field of view than the virtual endoscopy does. We suggest the colon outer surface centerline for virtual eversion to acquire a graceful everted colon. An outer surface centerline is employed in the proposed method, instead of the inner surface centerline, which is easily led to a failed virtual eversion. More optimizations are applied on both the surface detection and the centerline spline interpolation to get better eversion results. The partial electrical field model is adapted for virtual eversion. The proposed method is validated on the 3D tube phantoms and CT dataset.
