The Application of Stereoscopic 3D Display Technology in Medical Images
Introduction There is a growing need to present increasing complex and voluminous three dimensional information in such a way that it may be interpreted rapidly, naturally, and with great accuracy. As a novel, inexpensive, stereoscopic technique for generating 3D images, stereoscopic 3D flat screen which makes any observer able to perceive a real spatial impression attracts a great amount of attention from researchers and producers. Stereoscopic 3D display technology is based on the theory of parallax barrier to produce different images to viewer’s left and right eye 1. Innate depth cues inherent in the 3D objects are automatically present, then the 3D images may be observed naturally without the need of viewing aids (such as cumbersome 3D glasses), wherein all views enjoy the same high-quality 3D impression from their different viewing positions. In this paper, 3D medical image reconstructed from CT or MRI can be shown in stereoscopic displays in real-time.
