Quality check of new materials: determination of admiztures of Zn,Sb,Co,Fe,Pb and V by neutron activation analysis and spectrophotometry
The chemical composition of metals that form modem steels and alloys with special characteristics,which are used in power machine and transportation equipment building as well as in heavy engineering industry, should undergo thorough checks in the course of manu facturing process and operation.Composition checks al so facilitate and speed up the process of elaboration and application of new grade materials. The most complicat ed task has so far been to determine certain admixtures. The need for determination of admixtures at the rate 10~-4÷10!-6% prompts the search for new highly sensi tive selective multielement methods of analysis. The de ficiencies characteristic of many existing methods have long been outlined. These are the insufficient determi nation sensitivity,the presence of matrix elements that hinder determination,the difficulty of isolation and sep aration of admixtures from the base and alloying addi tions chemically similar to the component determined, and the absence of standard samples of composition. Therefore new schemes of analysis and new universal procedures should be developed to increase the efficien cy of contemporary methods of admixture determination.
