Cavity characteristics of cast-rolling AZ31 magnesium alloy during hot deformation

The cavity characteristics of roll-casting AZ31 magnesium alloy during deformation was analyzed by Gleeble 1500,optical mi croscopy (OM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The sheet was deformed by tensile experiment at the temperature of 200~400 ℃ and strain rates of 0.004 and 0.0004 s~-1. The cavity evolution during deformation was investigated by in-suit SEM observation. Distribution of cavity roundness coefficient and cavity diameter was measured. The results showed that the cavity first nucleated at the grain boundary especially at triple points and then grew up by mechanism of diffusion and plasticity. The coalescence of cavity during de formation caused the fracture.
