Effects of superheated electromagnetic stirring on microstructure of A356 alloy

The effects of electromagnetic stirring (EMS) at different superheat temperature are investigated on the morphology and size distribution of dendrite and non-dendrite.It is concluded that electromagnetic stirring not only reduces the size of dendrite independent of pouring temperature,but also promote the columnar-equiaxed transition (CET). The effects start while pouring temperature is between 690~670 ℃ and become intensive at 630 ℃. The CET temperature is improved to 650~630 ℃ during application of electromagnetic stirring.
