Effects of electron beam treatment on surface topography TC4 titanium alloy

TC4 titanium alloy was employed to different electron beam treated and the surface topography was investigated by SEM and AFM. The surface roughness was modified by electron beam treatment and the polishing mechanism was analyzed by studying the cross section microstructure of electron beam treated specimens by sEM and TEM. The remelt and fine-grain microstructure of surface layer caused by pulsed electron beam treatment is the main polishing mechanism and reason of modification of surface topography.
