Precipitation behavior of the Mg-Zn-Er alloy reinforced by the icosahedral quasicrystal

Precipitation behaviors of the as-cast Mg-5Zn-2.5Er alloy during heat treatment were investigated. After solution treatment at 440℃ for 10 h,the granular and lamellar phases in as-cast alloy were still existed and a lot of fine phases with certain directivity formed homogeneously in grains,and the I-phase and W-phase containing Mg,Zn and Er were discovered.Further aging treatment at 200℃ ,many nano-scale precipitates precipitated in grains,which has the different directivity with the phase formed after solution,and they are identified as Mg-Zn phase.
