Surface anticoagulation modification of TiNi alloy by albumin-immobilization

The use of TiNi class of Shape Memory Effect (SME) alloys in the biomedical field has become a well established area be cause TiNi fulfills the property requirements better than any competing material.Especially the property of excellent free recovery, where it is beneficial for stents. In order to improve the biological safety and haemocompatibility of matrix material,a layer of TiO2 film was pre pared by sol-gel method on the surface of TiNi alloy. Then, the NH2-active group was introduced on the surface of coated samples through treatment in amination solution. Finally, the albumin was linked on the surface of TiO_2 film through the NH2- active group and layer-by-layer technology. The surface characteristics of the samples were successively performed and tested by XRD,SEM and EDS. The in vitro blood compatibility of the TiNi alloy with and without albumin-immobilization were evaluated by clotting time measurement and platelet adhesion test, and the results showed that the anticoagulation and haemocompatibility of the TiNi alloy could be remarkably improved by surface modification via albumin-immobilization.
