Magnetic structure and properties of pyrozene NaFeGe2O6
The pyroxenes are of the interest as a new class of multiferroic materials. They have interesting physical properties and prom ise important applications. Their electric polarization is influence by comparatively weak magnetic fields. The sodium iron germanate NaFeGe2O6 powder was synthesized by the solid state reaction. The temperature-dependent neutron powder diffraction experiments show occurrence of magnetic reflections at 13 K in a reasonable agreement with the temperature-dependent inverse magnetic susceptibility date. The NaFeGe2O6 magnetic structure is incommensurate. It consists of antiferromagneticaUy coupled Fe3+ pairs with helical modulation within a-c plane of the crystal lattice. The magnetic peaks can be indexed with the magnetic propagation vector k= (0.3357(4),0,0.0814(3)) at 1.56 K.
