Research on boron removal of metallurgical grade silicon with silica by ozidizing refining

The principle of reactions between the boron in metallurgical grade silicon and SiO2 was theorortically analyzed. The metallur gical grade silicon doped with SiO2 was tried to refine in the induction furnace under the humid argon atmosphere. The systematic experi ments were carried out in the different holding times and ratios. The boron content of samples refined was detected by the inductively cou pled plasma (ICP). The results show that the boron content of silicon is reduced from 16 ppmw to lppmw below,even to 0.084 ppmw when the slag agent of (10% -30%) SiO2 is used with the conditions of 1500-1700 X. And 1-3 h holding time. The silicon refined with the method can meet the boron requirement of solar grade silicon. A good reference for the large-scale production of silicon by the metal lurgical method to remove boron is provided in this papar.
