The evolution of the concepts of radiation and thermal stability of beryllium concerning its use in nuclear and thermonuclear reactors
From the point of view of crystal lattice structure and peculiarities of its physical and mechanical properties,beryllium,which is the lightest from the refractory and the most refractory from the light metals,may be placed among the paradoxical metals.It possesses unique nu clear properties,as well as high electric and thermal conductivity,heat-resistance,melting temperature and boiling point,corrosion stability,dimensional and con figuration stability.By its specific modulus of elasticity,strength,and heat capacity it exceeds all other materi als,and by its density it is comparable to the lightest magnesium alloys.
