The appearance of features of photorefractive LiNbO3 single crystals of different composition in raman spectra

1.Introduction Raman spectra contain both the lines corresponding to fundamental vibrations of the crystal lattice and others lines, called superfluous 1 . The intensity of su perfluous lines is about two orders of magnitude lower than that of the lines corresponding to crystal lattice fun damental vibrations, whereas their frequencies are prac tically independent of the crystal composition. At pres ent ,there are no explanations adequately explaining the nature of the origin of the so-called superfluous lines, therefore interpretations of low-intensity lines dif fer from one author to another 1-12. There are grounds to believe that the superfluousline parameters are most sensitive to fine peculiarities in structural changes arising due to changing composition and growth techniques. It is the structural fine variations that deter mine the quality of ferroelectric, photorefractive and nonlinear optic characteristics of the crystal. This paper investigates the behavior of some low-intensity lines in the Raman spectrum of a LiNbO3 crystal depending on its composition and growth technique.
