Anti-corrosion properties of Fe-Ni metal anode for aluminium electrolysis

Fe-Ni metal anode was fabricated by cold-press sintering.Fe,Ni as the main raw materials in Ar atmosphere. The corrosion behavior of Fe-Ni metal anode was studied by electrolysis testing. The electrolyte is consist of Na3AlF6(87 wt.%),LiF(3 wt. %),CaF2 (5 wt.%) and Al2O3(5 wt.%) which correspond to molecular ratio of 2.1. The results indicate that physicochemical dissolution progress occurs in the metal anode. The microstructure and composition of corrosion layer was analyzed by SEM and XRD. The corrosion mecha nism of the metal anode has also been suggested by the phase composition analyses of corrosion layer.NiFe2O4 and Fe2O3 found in the ox ide layer of anode and can prevent the molten cryolite from corroding further,and decrease the corrosion rate.
