Study on reclaiming spent pot lining of aluminium electrolysis cells by alkaline leaching and acid leaching
In this paper,the process of leaching the spent pot lining (SPL) by alkaline and acid were described.Firstly,in the NaOH solution of a concentration of 60 g/L,at 100 ? ,the SPL were leached lasting 1-3 h. The purity of carbon from NaOH leaching is 72.7%.Secondly,further leaching in the HCl solution of a concentration of 5.84 wt.% ,at 100 ?,under the stirring conditions were car ried out,and the purity of carbon powder increased to 97.2%. Then,by using the acid leaching filtrate to adjust the alkaline leaching fil trate to a appropriate pH value of 9,the solid Na3AlF6 deposit from the solution at room temperature. After separating the solid Na3AlF6,the suurated solution of bleaching powder was used to deposit CaF2 by the reacting between F-and Ca2+. The process of treating sPL of aluminium electrolysis cells introduced in this paper could eliminate the solid waste materials and reclaim the second valuable resources.
