Orthogonal design of Ni-based filler metals with Hf and Zr as melting-point depressants

Nine Ni-based filler metals were designed with an orthogonal array. The liquidus and solidus temperatures,spreading area and hardness of each filler metal were measured.IC10 superalloy was brazed with these filler metals at 125℃/10 min,and tensile strengths of the joints were determined at 900℃.Most strengths of the joints were high and some of them even surpassed 90% of that of the base metal.Range and variance analyses were conducted on the above data,and the results inferred that one filler metal with the fol lowing composition was a promising braze: Ni+Hf matrix,with alloying elements of Zr5,Mo4,Cr8 and Co8 (in wt.%),and the corre sponding joints possessed superior comprehensive performance.
