Vacuum brazing of carbon fiber-reinforced SiC ceramic matriz composite to niobium

Vacuum brazing of C,/SiC ceramic matrix composite to metal Nb was studied with Ag-Cu-Ti and Ti-Zr-Cu-Ni at 880℃ for 10 min and 960℃for 10 min respectively and sound joints were achieved.SEM and XEDS analyzed results indicated that,in the two kinds of joints,reaction layers were visible in the brazing seam near the C,/SiC matrix.Element Ti reacted with carbon and SiC and forming TiC and Ti-Si phase,promoting the wettability of the two brazing fillers. The three-point bend strengths of C/SiC/Nb joints using Ag-27.4Cu-4.4TiandTi-13Zr-21Cu-9Ni were 205.0 and ll5.3 MPa respectively.It is believed that, Ag-27.4Cu4.4Ti brazing filler,due to its good plasticity,can release the joint residual stress more effectively than Ti-13Zr-21Cu-9Ni.
