Measures to Reduce CO2 and Other Emissions in the Steel Industry in Germany and Europe
The integrated steel works in EU 27 operate many modern plants for the production of a wide variety of high grade steel products. The blast furnace/converter route will remain dominant. Control of emissions is mainly related to concentration of dust, SO2, NOx, dioxins and other substances. One main focus is set on the emissions of CO2 and the CO2 emission trading system. New processes in ironmaking to reduce CO2 emissions are described. The German steel industry has made a self commitment with the government to reduce its specific CO2 emissions by 22% in 2012 compared to 1990.
