Study on Optimization of Sintering With MAC Ore Fines
This paper introduces MAC fines properties and sinter blend optimization laboratory tests conducted at Masteel. When MAC fines were substituted for Brazilian fines, good sintering results were obtained with a moderate increase in sinter mix moisture to optimise granulation and permeability for the more porous MAC ore. Optimization tests found that return fines and feed %coke level could be maintained constant. Sinter TI was maintained, RI increased notably, productivity decreased slightly and fuel rate increased a little due to lower sinter yield. For the 30%MAC blend, some effective ways were studied to improve performance and achieve target sinter quality. These included increasing sinter basicity to 2.20, increasing burnt lime to 3.0% and using serpentine as a SiO2 and MgO source to replace local high SiO2 ores and dolomite which requires more energy to calcine.
