Study andApplication of CompositeAgglomeration Process of Fluoric Iron Concentrate

An innovative process of preparing ironmaking burden—composite agglomeration process (CAP) has been developed by Central South University. Over traditional sintering or pelletizing process, CAP has a series of advantages, such as rational use of diverse iron-bearing materials, great improvement of the material bed permeability and productivity of sintering machine, obviously low energy consumption, and capability of preparing low basicity charge with good metallurgical performance. In this paper, CAPwas adopted to produce ironmaking burden by using fluoric iron concentrate from Baotou Iron and Steel Corp., the results show that, for traditional sintering process(TSP), the tumbler index (TI) of sinter is only 58.12% at the basicity of 2.5, and TI goes down to 50.75% with decrease of basicity to 1.5. However, TI is able to be improved to 65.84% for CAP by enlarging coke granularity range, adopting divided coke addition, firing with aid of hot air and improving MgO content in mixture. Furthermore, productivity is increased from 1.133 t/m2·h of TSP to 1.5 t/m2·h of CAP at same overall basicity level of 1.5. The process has been put into practice by Baotou Iron and Steel successfully since 2008.
