Sintering Behavior of Raw Material Bed Placing Large Particles
Recently, the increase in the amount of limonite ore in the raw material of sinter ore lowers permeability of raw material bed and yield of sinter ore. It is believed that the collapse of pores in the raw material bed causes these problems although it has a porous structure. Some methods, rods or plates are inserted into the bed to control voids of it, have been developed to increase the permeability. However, installation and maintenance costs are incurred. Therefore, controlling the layer structure by the particle size of the raw materials, or by including loosely packed parts and densely packed parts in the same packed bed has been discussed. In this report, pot tests, in which large particles were placed in the raw material bed to increase permeability, were carried out. The sintering behavior of the bed is discussed. It was found that the bulk density of the powder part of the raw material bed decrease when the large particles were placed in it. Therefore the permeability increased, which increased sintering speed. Also, yield was maintained because of the increased use of coke. As a result, the productivity was highly improved.
