Study on Influence of K2O and Na2O on Mineral Composition and Microstructure of Sinter of Baotou Iron and Steel (Group) Co

The influence of K2O and Na2O on mineral composition and microstructure of high basicity sinter produced by adding K2CO3 and Na2CO3 into Baiyunebo iron ore concentrate was studied using mini-sintering test device, optical microscopy (OM) and SEMEDAX. The results show that the content of K2O and Na2O in sinter has a significant effect on glassy phase composition, but has little effect on glassy phase quantity. As the content of K2O and Na2O in sinter increased from 0.25% to 1.00%, K2O and Na2O highly enriched in glassy phases, the main crystal phase hematite and its crystal stock growth degree increased, magnetite decreased and distributed homogeneously between hematite crystal stocks, a small quantity of glassy phase also distributed between hematite crystal stocks, calcium ferrite, cuspidine and dicalcium silicate were seldom observed, the phase constituents of sinter reduced, microstructure became homogeneous, pores became small and distributed homogeneously, the multi-cavities and thin framework microstructure appeared.
