The First and Second LawAnalysis of Thermodynamics Analysis for Iron Ore Pellets Induration in the Traveling Grate
Although many models of iron ore pelletsinduration process have been developed on the basis of the first law of thermodynamics, the combined first and second law analysis (exergy analysis) of the process in the traveling grate is rare. Therefore, exergy balance test was systematically carried out on a traveling grate used for iron ore pellets induration in China. And according to the test, the exergy analysis has been conducted to investigate the irreversibility of the process. The first law analysis shows that kiln gases enthalpy, enthalpy from ACII gases, and magnetite oxidation account for 34%, 33%, and 27% in energy input respectively, while the largest energy outcome (52%) comes from outlet pellets enthalpy, and the proportion of heat losses resulting from water evaporation, ones grate castings, and ones exhaust is about 14%. The exergy analysis reveals that the proportion of pellets exergy, kiln gases exergy, exergy from ACII gases, and oxidation in exergy input is 28%, 27%, 25%, and 18% respectively. And pellet exergy accounts for 50% in outcomes. The heat transfer irreversibility (27%) is the biggest one in the exergy destruction. Last, we manifest that irreversibility due to temperature differences, fluid viscous shear effect, viscosity effect, and solid form effect can lead to inevitable exergy losses. In a word, this study provides a better understanding of the energy and exergy flows of iron ore pellets induration in the traveling grate and helps to economize energy.
