Use of Low-SiliconAlloys for Composition Charge Correction Into the BOF
With the objective to adequate the chemical composition of hot metal in the BOF burden, related to its Silicon content, some experiments were realized in a 80 ton BOF Converter to substitute FeSi75 normally used. These were made in order to reduce the Steel cost in the converter. The trials were made using the material furnished by SOLVI during 6 months of the last year. Based on this new practice, when the Silicon content of hot metal was less than 0,3 %, a better improvement on slag formation was noticed, as well as a reduction of Steel cost, less metal projection into the lance. Besides that, it can be concluded that some residues can be treated and after this, it can be obtained a new material to improve the BOF operation.
